Resharper 8 Cheatsheet

I’ve found this cheatsheet to be the best way to learn all the secret shortcuts in Resharper that really help to speed up development in Visual Studio and make life easier.  For months I had it pinned to my cube wall until I used them so much they’re muscle memory.

I’ve been using Resharper since way back and I also use their other dev products like IntelliJ so I use the Resharper 2.x/IntelliJ scheme:

You can also use their Visual Studio style scheme:

If you want to change your shortcut scheme (or you aren’t sure what it’s set to), in the Visual Studio top menu go to Resharper –> Options –> Keyboard & Menus, then select “Visual Studio” or “Resharper 2.x or IntelliJ IDEA” and Apply Scheme and Save.  Then hit a shortcut like Ctrl+Shift+N and a menu pops up saying there’s a conflict in shortcuts and asks which scheme do you want to use.  Select “Visual Studio” or “Resharper 2.x or IntelliJ IDEA” and check the Apply to All.  You can switch to the other schema at any time.

Amazon crowdsources picking which shows to fund

Amazon has dumped the model of having rich old guys decide what we see and hear on TV and has crowdsourced picking which series to fund.  “To pick just one show would mean that we’re rejecting many other shows,” said Roy Price, Director of Amazon Studios. “We’re doing it this way presumably because we don’t believe in the guru model of television where we should just make decisions using our great wisdom. When you have the internet as a platform for your service, the right way to do this is to give people a sample and see what they like.”

Watch the pilots and vote which ones will be created into original series on Amazon.  Currently there are 6 kids shows and 8 comedies (including Zombieland).  They’re also using “internet chatter” to decide which ones to fund, so be sure to reply with comments here.

Nano drones now on the battlefield

Black Hornet nano drone

Teeny tiny drones have been deployed to British troops on the front line in Afghanistan.   They are the first to use the state-of-the-art handheld tiny surveillance helicopters, just 10cm long and weighing 16 grams, which relay reliable full motion video and still images back to the devices’ handlers in the battlefield.

Soldiers use the Norwegian-designed Black Hornet Nano Unmanned Air Vehicle to peer around corners or over walls to identify any hidden threats and the images are relayed to a small screen on a handheld terminal. The mini drones can be piloted directly or programmed to follow co-ordinates using GPS.  Powered by battery, the Black Hornet is reported to have a range of about half a mile (800m), a top speed of 22mph (35kph) and can fly for up to 30 minutes.
